Check in with a Smart Badge
Your Smart Badge works automatically when you enter a facility, immediately displaying your check-in status. However, some facilities may also require you to complete a screening or full check-in on the app.
Depending on your credentialing status at the facility, your Smart Badge will light up as:
- Green - You're check in and authorized to be onsite
- Red - Action is needed or you're not authorized to be onsite or in this zone
Tip For a smooth Smart Badge experience, always keep your badge near your phone.
What Happens When You Arrive (Gateway Check-In)
When you enter a facility, a Gateway will detect your Smart Badge and attempt to check you in. Not every facility or zone will have a gateway enabled. If there is not one present, complete a mobile check-in.
✅ If you’re compliant:
At facilities with no extra steps required:
- You’ll be automatically checked in and your badge will turn green
- You’ll receive a notification in the Green Security mobile app
At facilities that require screening or full check-in:
- You’ll get a notification prompting you to complete check-in in the mobile app
- Open the app and complete the steps
- Once finished, your badge will turn green
❌ If you’re not compliant:
- Your badge will turn red (for 2 hours)
- You’ll receive a notification explaining why
While You’re Onsite
Gateways may re-scan your badge while you’re inside the facility.
- If you’re in an authorized area → your badge stays or turns green
- If you’re in a restricted area → your badge turns red (for 1 hour)
Smart Badge FAQs and Troubleshooting
How long does the green badge last?
- If appointments are required: until your appointment ends
- If not: until midnight

- Missing or incomplete credentials
- No appointment at a required facility
Sync your badge
If you checked in but your badge didn’t turn green (for example, your badge wasn’t nearby or you used a kiosk), you can manually sync it:
- Open the Smart Badge module in the Green Security mobile app
- Hold your Smart Badge near your phone
- Tap Sync Badge Status
- Wait for the badge light to update
If your badge doesn’t change color, try again while keeping the badge close to your phone.
Check in on mobile
The mobile app has three options for checking in: Show Badge, GPS Check In, Scan Kiosk Code. Mobile GPS Check In allows vendors to find nearby facility zones and check in on their device without needing to visit a physical kiosk.
Individual facilities choose which check in methods they would like vendors to use at their facility.
Note To use mobile GPS Check In, you need to make sure location services are enabled on your mobile device.
On your Green Security mobile dashboard, you have three options for checking in:
- Show Badge: At a kiosk, display your vendor QR code so you can scan it using the kiosk's barcode scanner. Complete the check in steps on the kiosk.
- GPS Check In: Find the zone you need to check in to and select Check In. Enter the requested information and then select Check In.
- Scan Kiosk Code: At a kiosk, use your camera to scan the QR code displayed on the kiosk's check in screen, which will move the check in process to your mobile device. Enter the requested information and select Check In.
